Analisis Gaya Bahasa Sindiran Dalam Novel Zadig Ou La Destinée Karya Voltaire

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types and forms of satirical styles in Voltaire's novel Zadig ou la Destinée. The method used is a descriptive qualitative method. This research focuses on Voltaire's novel Zadig ou la Destinée as the source of data analysis. We use the theory proposed by Debailly as the basic reference to validate the research of types of satire namely Horatian and Juvenalian satire and Schoentjes' (2001) theory as the reference to validate the forms of satire namely irony, sarcasm and cynicism. The results of this research show that there are two types of satire and three forms of satire in Voltaire's novel on the basis of the theory used, namely Horatian and Juvenalian for the types of satire and irony, sarcasm and cynicism for the forms of satire. Based on the analysis results, the horatian type and the irony form are more frequently encountered. The data found are horatian 66.6% or 24 frequencies, juvenalian 33.3% or 12 frequencies and irony 66.6% or 24 frequencies, sarcasm 19.4% frequency 7 and cynicism 13.8% frequency 5.
